RIO DE JANEIRO

Rio de Janeiro needs no introduction. Everyone visiting Brazil wants to experience the “Marvelous City.” We recommend staying in a hotel or Airbnb in the South Zone (which includes neighborhoods such as Leblon, Copacabana, Leme, and Ipanema), the city’s most upscale and touristy area, or in Barra da Tijuca (farther from downtown but easily accessible by metro and close to the beach

AMAZON RAINFOREST

To reach the Amazon, you must first fly to Manaus, the largest city in the heart of the rainforest. A connection in Brasília may be required (at least a 3-hour flight).

FOZ DO IGUAÇU

Foz do Iguaçu is home to the largest waterfall system in South America, located on the border between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. On the Brazilian side, you can walk along platforms very close to the waterfalls (be prepared to get wet; bring a raincoat, or buy one there). On the Argentine side, you can take a boat ride that goes very close to the base of the falls. Plan one or two days to visit Iguaçu National Park (one day for the Brazilian side and one for the Argentine side). You may also cross the border to visit Argentina or Paraguay, or tour the Itaipu Dam, the world’s largest operating hydroelectric power plant. Parque das Aves is also an excellent place to observe the region’s diverse birdlife.

BAHIA

Salvador: Known as “Salvador da Bahia,” it was Brazil’s first capital and is famous for its natural beauty, the warmth of its people, and the strong influence of African culture. Salvador’s Historic Center features streets and architectural landmarks dating back to the colonial period, the Empire, and the First Brazilian Republic.

Morro de São Paulo: A small island located about a 2-hour ferry ride from the port of Salvador. There are no cars, and you can walk around the entire island in a single day.

Chapada Diamantina: Incredible hiking and cycling trails, as well as lakes and waterfalls. You will need a guide (who can also organize full packages for your stay, with different activities each day). Since it takes time to get there, plan at least four days. Expect an intense experience with daily hikes and car travel to different areas each day. Some trails involve walking under the hot sun, but guides will advise how much water to bring. Do not miss the Buracão waterfall. There are direct flights from Salvador to Lençóis (the main village within the park).

ALAGOAS

Maragogi: If you enjoy snorkeling or scuba diving, don’t miss Maragogi! A Brazilian destination often compared to the Caribbean. It is close to Maceió and about a 1.5-hour drive from Porto de Galinhas.

CEARÁ

Fortaleza is a major tourist destination and one of the largest cities in northeastern Brazil. There are beautiful beaches outside the city, such as Canoa Quebrada, as well as Beach Park, the largest water park in Latin America. It is also home to the world's tallest water slide, standing 14 stories tall and reaching speeds of over 100 km/h. You can reach Fortaleza by plane (1 hour) or by car (approximately 8–9 hours).

FERNANDO DE NORONHA

Paradisiacal beaches await in Fernando de Noronha, an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about a 1-hour flight from Recife or Natal. It is a national park of unmatched natural beauty. You can hike, surf, dive, and take boat tours to see dolphins.

SÃO PAULO

Brazil’s largest city, São Paulo (with around 11.5 million people), is often called “Sampa” and is a city that never sleeps. There is always something happening, from cultural performances and exhibitions to bars and restaurants open 24 hours a day, ensuring visitors will always find something to do.
